Legal Education Officer

Full-Time: 35 hours a week. Work hours will be variable through seven days of the week as required. Part-time & flexible work arrangements are possible. Starting as soon as practicable. Initially limited to 12 months and may be extended.

Purpose of the Role

To lead, plan and coordinate all of TLC’s legal education, including MCLE seminars, Community legal education, ten seminar series and undertake tasks as required.

Salary

To be decided commensurate with experience and capabilities - with superannuation – and annual and other leave as per the applicable Award. Applicants may indicate their expectation of the salary for this role.

Principal Accountabilities

×          Plan and coordinate all aspects of MCLE seminars each year. This includes securing of speakers, venues, marketing, catering and administration.

×          Plan and coordinate Ten Community Seminar series - that is ten seminars in ten locations on ten continuous Saturdays for the community.

×          Plan and coordinate Community Legal Education at community events, such as School Fetes, Spring Fairs, Carnivals, community events organised by service clubs such as Lions and Rotary Clubs, (target should be 20 events per year)

×          Identify appropriate speakers (either from among TLC volunteers or under the auspices of TLC) for one-off events requested by community organisations

×          Source sponsorships, funding and develop marketing strategies for the range of educational programmes.

×          Other duties as required by the Honorary Director, including, where appropriate, assisting with provision of legal advice services, contributing to law reform, undertaking a range of administrative duties.

Essential criteria

×          Proven ability to plan strategically and deliver effective education events and to apply that to education with legal professionals and the community;

×          Evidence of high-level communication skills appropriate for liaising with legal professionals (such as solicitors, barristers, serving or retired judicial officers of various tribunals and courts), community members and TLC volunteers;

×          Attention to detail;

×          Proven track record in working in a team and in networking.

×          Committed to the mission of TLC – helping vulnerable people

×          Positive attitude in working with community sector and an appreciation of multicultural working environments

×          Current Police Clearance and Working With Children check

Desirable candidates include

×          Experienced and highly motivated law graduates, young solicitors or barristers, teachers or others with experience in working with the community.

×          Solicitors who could also attend to legal work of TLC in the periods when not required for legal education.

×          Holder of a driving licence and owning a motor vehicle.
